Who Are The Best Leaders?

oakstone international executive search who are the best leaders?

The most money in their bank account? The most successful? The ones with the biggest businesses? There is only one quality which makes the best leaders and that is humility.

After years of hard work, dedication and being an authoritive figure it’s easy for leaders to let success go to their head. However, there has been extensive research into the power and effectiveness of humility, showing that it gives a significant competitive advantage to leaders.

Humble leaders are more approachable, don’t point the finger and are willing to listen to everyone – whether they are a manager or intern.  It is these qualities which allow leaders to continuously grow, and when they do this, their businesses thrive and so do their team.

Evidence also suggests that leaders really do need to lead by example (https://journals.aom.org/doi/abs/10.5465/amj.2013.0660).  Leaders influence team performance and provide a template for future leadership – so if you want a cohesive, collaborative culture don’t swan around micromanaging your team, take the time to listen to your team and make changes that are essential to your company’s success.

Here are some humble quotes from the world most well know leaders:

‘Try never to be the smartest person in the room.  And if you are, I suggest you invite smarter people or find a different room.’ – Michael Dell.

‘Humility will open more doors than arrogance ever will.’ – Zig Ziglar

‘There is no need to show off when you know who you are.’ – Maxime Lagace

‘Success is a lousy teacher.  It seduces people into thinking they can’t lose.’ – Bill Gates

Our advice is to take a step back, appreciate, listen to your team and add value.
