Search Background

Didomi was looking to hire a revenue leader following its acquisition by private equity firm Marlin Equity Partners. Oakstone had been introduced to Didomi nearly four years earlier via mutual connections at Tealium, a longstanding client.

Although initial discussions in earlier years did not progress to a placement, Oakstone maintained a close relationship with Didomi’s leadership team over time.

Following Marlin’s investment, Didomi set ambitious growth targets to scale revenue. To support this goal, they required a senior sales leader who could drive expansion across EMEA.

VP EMEA Requirements

The hiring manager for this search was Didomi’s Chief Revenue Officer and co-founder. Didomi’s original requirement was to hire a Head of Sales. However, under Marlin’s guidance they decided to search for a more senior profile with experience in aggressively growing EMEA revenue.

Key requirements included:

  • A proven commercial leader with experience scaling a SaaS MarTech business to specific revenue milestones.

  • An international profile, ideally based in Europe but not necessarily in France, where Didomi is headquartered.

  • Experience managing a multi-regional sales team and executing strategic growth across multiple European markets.

  • Strong tenure and evidence of having led a complete revenue journey in a similar stage environment.

Oakstone Approach and Solution

Oakstone’s approach began with a deep profiling of the European MarTech landscape to identify organisations that had successfully achieved comparable scaling milestones. Given the limited number of MarTech firms reaching those revenue levels in EMEA, the research phase was critical in identifying target companies and executives.

The team executed a multi-geography search across the UK, France, Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands. The process included:

  • Leveraging Oakstone’s extensive network within the SaaS MarTech community.

  • Conducting both warm introductions and cold approaches to qualified executives.

  • Educating candidates about Didomi’s unique market positioning and the strategic significance of Marlin’s investment.

While Didomi was less well known than its larger competitors, Oakstone effectively positioned the company as a best-in-breed alternative in a fast-growing, highly relevant technology space.

Search Challenges

The primary challenge lay in identifying candidates with the right scale of revenue responsibility. Many MarTech companies have their headquarters in the United States, with EMEA operations typically plateauing too low. This limited the available talent pool who had successfully driven larger-scale growth within EMEA.

The search was also competitive, as Oakstone was one of two firms engaged, alongside a France based firm who had been involved in an earlier phase of the search. Oakstone’s extensive research, speed, and ability to influence senior candidates ultimately distinguished its performance.

Search Results

Oakstone introduced six high-calibre candidates, with four progressing to advanced interview stages. The selection process included:

  • Initial interviews with the CRO.

  • Second-stage panel interviews featuring candidate presentations.

  • Final meetings with Marlin Equity Partners representatives and Didomi’s CEO.

The successful hire was a seasoned commercial leader with a strong track record scaling EMEA operations to appropriate levels of revenue. His depth of experience, analytical approach, and demonstrated success in revenue expansion made him a clear standout during the panel stage.

The entire search process took just eight weeks from briefing to signed contract, ensuring the new VP EMEA was on board before year-end to contribute to strategic planning for the following year.
