He decided to list his apartment at the last minute before leaving on vacation, and it ended up covering the rent handily. Fast-forward 6 months, and he had scaled his operation into a successful multi-unit short-term rental business in Southern California. 

But Scott realised that, for the most part, he was flying blind. He had zero intel on what his competitors were doing and whether or not he was leaving money on the table. Within 2 years, Scott had developed a method to track the short-term rental performance of every listing on Airbnb. Those machine-learning algorithms would go on to power the insights and analytics behind AirDNA.
